There are several forts in the district. Some are larger than others. Some are thirty and others sixty yards in diameter. They are of the usual type, a ditch surrounded by a trench. Quick fence - whitethorn usually grows on the ditch.
The following are the forts -
    - Three at Carrowkeel
    - One on John Gates's land Cullicuirvan[?]
    - One on Joseph Kelly's land Coolegarry
    - William Clogher's Gardenfort
    - Mick Egans - Fiscarn.
There is what is known as a Lisheen, a small lios, on Pat Daly's land at Curualea. It was, and is used as a burying place for unbaptized and still-born children. It is situated on a small hill beside the Bulleenirvan lake. Stones, simple lumps of stones mark the graves.
