    boys from this district attended that school, which was run by Lord Strickland, who paid the teachers and forbade the teaching or speaking of the native tongue.
    The principal subject of the day was penmanship, which was really wonderful, as some specimens are still preserved by Dudley Costello.
    Foster's double spelling book was the only book used and quill pens made and supplied by the teachers were used by the pupils.
    Master Lee is the only teacher who can be traced. He taught in Annaghmore, near Gurteen, Co Sligo.
