- Very little money changed hands in those times but the people were happy and contented and no one was left hungry. It was the greed for money that brought a lot of povery to our land, poverty and unemployment.
Years ago, in the last generation, about 50 to 60 years back, the smith made all the implements for the farm, shovels, spades, spikes ploughs &c.
The iron plough, called a number 3 was the product of a local forge. It was heavier than the modern plough and lasted for years
To-day the smith only repairs the farmers implements, he does not make new ones. The reason is not far to seek, mass production in factories is the cause of all that and if things go on as at present in 60 more years to come the black-smith(continues on next page)
