    and tobacco. Then that person would say "May God have mercy on the soul departed. Then some of the women especially the friends of the dead person would gather round the corpse and "Caoin" for about an hour. This "Caoin" was the old Irish lament for the dead. Then every friend of the family that came in cried. The women in the house would join with them in the "Caoin. They would keep the corpse two nights in the house and from once the candles would be lit no young girl or a widow would be allowed in.
