  1. It was on Halloween night 1892 that a very cruel murder took place in the police barracks at Ballinadrimna. A policeman suddenly lost control of his mind and with loaded revolver entered the sergeants room at a late hour. He shot Sergeant Rogan and his wife and baby child. He then turned his attention to the other room where the children were sleeping. He shot three of them. After then trying to set fire to the building he shot himself. Unfortunatley no other policeman was in the barracks that night. All the sergeants children were killed except one little girl who hid under the bed.
