- About 100 years ago old William Taylor of Feragh got married. He rode on horse back to the church to get married and came home with the bride behind him. The custom long ago was that the man who was at the bride's house first won a bottle of whiskey. The most marriages takes place in June. March is thought unlucky for marriage. Monday, Friday and Saturday are unlucky days for marriage. Biddy Maglone of Feragh said if ever she would get married she would marry in May when the fields are green and the meadows are gay. I heard of Miss Mc Murry near Ballybay who got married in the house about 27 years ago. It as the custom long ago after the guest would get their dinner and tea and some whiskey there was a dance and a fiddle and they would dance till day light in the morning it was held in the brides house. The wives sat on the horses with their husbands.(continues on next page)
