  1. The fairs were held in the nearest town in the district. Buyers used to buy cattle through the country. Cows were sold in cow-green and calves were sold in the street. Toll is not paid but when the animal is sold a little money is given to the buyer called a luckpenny, when a bargain is made the parties strike hands to show they are satisfied. When an animal is sold it is markedwith the "Kick" or the hair is clipped at the side. When the animal is sold the halter is retained.
