1. Fairy Forts

   There are plenty of forts in this district. They are only a short distance apart and can be seen quite plainly from each other. The country folk believe there are fairies in them, and will not disturb them. One man who tried to plough through a fort which was on his land got a kcik from his horse, the same evening. There are no records of anyone exploring one of them thoroughly. it is said, that an old race of people called the "Tuatha de Danann" concealed themselved in these forts, only coming out at night, therefore giving rise to the belief in fairies which holds to the present day. The old people say that lights have been seen and music has been heard in some of these old forts at night. These forts were also used for defence and are placed at intervals of about six hundred yards apart. These forts are all circular in shape and are raised about four feet above the level of the ground. There is one old fort in Mr Michael Kevaneys field. The passage runs from the fort under the ground and ends up in Castletown house. In all these forts there are rooms underneath like
