  1. Tombstone Inscriptions

    In the cemetery of Killursa (where St Fursa built his first church in the early part of the 7th Cent) is a round stone pillar 9 feet in height, and 15 feet in circumference. Embedded in this pillar are two rect slabs, which bear the following inscriptions:-

    I H S
    Pray for the soul of Rev Veren Hugh Fergus PAsh Pst
    Deceased Ye 24th feb ry. In the year of our Lord 1763

    The second inscription is as follows:-
    Pray for the Soul of Father John Fergus P.S. Who Died in the 24th day of March in the year of Our Lord 1767
