  1. Scollops are used to hold the thatch on houses.
    A man gets a hook and goes to a field where there are soft young briars. He cuts as many yard-long briars as he wants and cuts the leaves and thorns off them. Then he points them at both ends. Now he ties them up in a bundle and leaves it away until he wants it.
    When he is thatching houses he ties the thatch down with the scollops so that it cannot be blown away in wind-storm.
    Some poor people gather the scollops and sell them in fairs and markets. They are sold in the fairs of Stranorlar and Strabane
