    thought that certain people could cast a spell for good or evil over the efforts of the butter makers.
    For instance there was a tale told about the cream being drawn mysteriously off the milk so that the butter makers in spite of all their churning could not turn milk into butter.
    And if a fairy had any spite against a big farmer's cows the milk would be so poor that in spite of many gallons of milk the produce would be both light and poor.
