  1. A very old and common game was skittles which was played with nine thick sticks about one foot long.
    The game was played like this: Five skittles were placed on the ground, four in the shape of a square and one in the centre. Each of them had a number and each person got a turn to throw the other four skittles. The game was played for different numbers and the person reaching the number first was the winner.
