  1. The drowning on Lough Sillan occured on the twenty-fifth of July one thousand eight hundred and seventy-eight. The victims of this disaster were Master McCabe and his wife the Mistress and the Monitress and thirteen of the children of Cullies school.
    Sometime before the drowning the Master promised the children of the school that he would give them a sail in the boat. The girls were to get the first day and the boys the next day.
    When they were all seated in the boat they began to cheer and laugh. They intended to have a very enjoyable evening. When they were about a quarter of a mile from the shore they began to cry for relief but before relief reached them they were all drowned
