- My Home District.
My home is in the townland of Clonloskan, Parish of Kilmore. There are four families living in Clonloskan. Gilroy’s, Scott’s, O'Reilly's and Beatty's. Gilroy's are the oldest family.
My grandfather George Beatty came here in 1856, he was a Scotch man. So I am the second generation born here.
George Scott the present owner of Scott’s was not born here but his holding, and fathers were both owned by other Scotts in former years.
Philip O’Reilley is not very long in Clonloskan, he married a widow named McCahill. The McCahill family were of very old standing in their place.
The houses are all thatched. The land is hilly and bog land very good for crop and grazing. There will be turf in Clonloskan for generations to come.
Some of the Gilroy family emigrated to America and three of my father’s brothers emigrated, and died there very young. Also one of my father’s half sisters emigrated to Australia.
