- 1. The wettest season that can be remembered by the oldest man was in the year 1924, they farmers suffered great losses with their crops, and hay, and turf and also with cattle and sheep as the died from the disease known as fluke also hares and rabbits died with the same disease. The hay and oats rotted in the field and were used as top dressing the following year. For almost twelve months the valleys were like lakes. 2. The greatest frost ever known was about fifty years ago well known (was about) as "the seven weeks frost" the lakes were frozen to the bottom, and the ice unbreakable. Some farmers took the advantage of carting home their turf with horses and carts on the ice, in the island districts, and the young people gathered to the recreation to skate and slide over them.(continues on next page)
