  1. There was a 'hedge' school in this district long ago. The local name for it was Corrahoe School. The name of the man that owned the field where the school was situated, was Fargue Lee of Corrahoe. The name of the teacher who taught in it, was Mary Soden of Lathagloghan.
    The school which consisted of a room and kitchen, was a farmers house. The teacher used to go home at night. The scholars paid the teacher at a rate of a schilling a quarter. Arithmetic, English, and Writing were taught in it. They wrote with quillpens, and they wrote on slates also, and they had a blackboard.
    There was no Irish taught. The children were arranged in
