    in the poem:-
    " She struck where the white and fleecy waves
    Looked soft as carded wool. "
    When the wool is carded it is made into rolls in another machine called a " Piecer " or "Condenser ". Those rolls of wool are lapped up on very large spools, which are brought to the spinning machine.
    The spinning machine is called the " Mule ".
    After the wool is spun it is wooven into cloth on hand-looms.
