There are a lot of old houses in Tinahely
    but our's is the oldest.
It was owned by Captain Chamney
140 years ago, the walls are slated
from top to bottom as well as the
roof. In the rebellion of 1798
Captain Chamney was shot through one
of the side windows in our house and
    was buried in Carnew Graveyard.
There is a small bit of poetry about
him and two other men and it is
We shot Chamney and Captain Dixon.
And General Walpole did not get time to run.
Like a hunted fox, he crossed the rocks
When he heard one sound of our Croppy guns.
There are two very old chesnut trees which
are still to be seen, from which many
of the captured Croppies were hung, we call
    then Adam and Eve.
The trunk of Eve is hollow and when
anyone passes by these two old trees on
a very wet day they get in and
    stand in it.
