- People used to eat only two meals a day. They were breakfast and dinner.
Breakfast in the middle of the day, & the dinner at night.
Potatoes & buttermilk was a meal.
Porridge was eaten sometimes.
The drank buttermilk often.
The table was not usually in the middle of the floor but near a wall, & most people had what they called a falling table. These may be seen in the districts round Rathdrum still
Oatenmeal bread was eaten
Fish nettles & other food was eaten
They did not eat late at night
Tea was not known.
They ate meat at Xmas.
They used eggs at Easter.
Tea was introduced about the year 1840
wooden noggins were used with silver rings on them. There are some of these in the mountain districts still.
