  1. The well is near coach road Bagenalstown to Kiltealy, through Scallop gap. A place coming much to public notice for scenery. Ordinance map Sheet 147 about a 1/2 inch from East or right hand side near middle of sheet. St Fortchern's church (chapel) indicated on map as white church (chapel). May leave some association with white mountains as part of Black Stairs Range is called white mountain.
    The well was re-opened about 60 years ago for ages before then twas just a mere grass grown spring. A Dr. Comerford found some reference to it in Ancient books in Rome and following description found the noted Sone Steps 9 in number and the ancient
