  1. In our district the people observe nearly all the feasts of the year as they occur.
On St Stephen's day the boys from the district dress up queerly and put vizards on their faces so that they would not be known and go around from house to house looking for money. The song they sing is.
The Wren the Wren the king of the birds.
St. Stephen's day she was got in the furze.
    Although she was small.
    Her hounour was great.
Get up you young lady and give us the treat.
Up with the kettle and down with the pan.
So give us the money to bury the Wren.
Sometimes they go in procession and sometimes they go in threes and fours.
One of them collects the money and then divides it evenly between them. They spend it at pictures and in other ways.
