    and the fair for the cattle and horses are held on the green.
    When a number of animals are purchased the seller gets the money for them and then he gives the buyer about sixpence or a shilling for each animal - which is called luck money. When a bargain is coming to a close the purchaser generally says to the seller to hold out his hand and he gives the final bid and the bargain is clenched: sometimes they spit on their hands.
    People mark calves and pigs with raddle or red paint when sold. Each buyer has his own mark. When a horse is sold the halter is given to the buyer.
    May Day and the 15th of August are the largest fairs in Borris.
