  1. (continued from previous page)
On 15th June in the afternoon
    I interred my comrade John
Beloved by all both great and small
    Bewailed by everyone
In Eglish mould they lie entombed
    Which caused me to weep
He's laid in a bed between Pat and Ned
    Taking a silent sleep
As the telescope observed no stroke
    Still turning with the sun
The paths of truth and those pious sheets
    Never cease to run
These are like flowers in Flora's bowers
    When blighted in their bloom
Or the patron saint free from all taint
    Who to Paradise has flown
Their comrade boys with sterling eyes
    Around their bearers mourn
And at the grave each took their leave
    And homeward did return
Dear youths don't fret to pay the debt
    Which was to nature due
And return to the earth that gave them birth
And so must all of you.
    It gives offence to Providence
    Which decrees for to bewail
There is no excuse for such abuse
