  1. The years 1846 - 1847 were called black 46 - 47. They got this name because of the Famine. It was in its full height during these years.
    The cause of the famine was the failure of the potato crop. The blight came on them like a mist and remained on the hills and hollows.
    The potatoes got black in the ground and rotted. The government relieved the people by sending Stirab-
