    During the '98 Rebellion the tragedy which gives Bloody Bridge its name occurred, A few miles from this there lived three men and a girl. The girl was a Catholic. The three men conspired to kill a priest but the girl whom they thought was asleep overheard their plans. They induced the priest to leave his home late at night by sending him word to go to on a sick call. He got his white horse and on his way to the patient's house
