    have great fun ducking to take the apples out with their mouth. The apple must not be touched by the hand and they are eaten as they are caught. Nuts are also cracked and eaten. Grains of oats are burned in the fire while the players sit around.
    Gates are taken off the hinges and hid, wheels taken off carts and cabbage taken and scattered along the roads.
    In this part of the country many of those old customs and tricks are dying out, and with the exception of a game of snap-apple for children or a ring in a cake there is very little to distinguish Hallow Eve from any other night.
