    Old Houses
    In olden times the houses were thatched and the thatch was procured from the fields. The old houses had a bed in the kitchen along the wall and it was called a settle - bed
    Long ago the fire was in the corner and the front of it was made of freestone
    Some old houses had no chimney and the smoke came out through the door
    There were houses long ago and they had no glass in the windows and a bag was used instead
    In the old houses the floor was made of clay and half door's were common in the district
    Turf and wood were used for fire long ago
