pupil out of each house was allowed to go to it.
There was a other hedge-school held in the townland of Drumhaughly and the teacher was called James Doherty. He used to teach in his own house at night and his pupils had to pay him a fee of one shilling a week.
One day an old man by the name of Patrick Mc Goey he told him the following story about Master Gerby, he said that when a pupil came across a hard word when reading the master would say "pass it over its the name of a big town in F rance."
