- At this time numbers of men were returning from the battle to their native homes across the Shannon. All the boats were seized on by the soldiers. But one man named Greene who lived near the Shannon hid his boat under the water and conveyed numbers of people across the Shannon.
And when the night was over he hid his boat again. In many years afterwards he was over in Mayo and some of the people recognised him, so he went home for fear he might be caught and taken up about carrying the people across the Shannon twenty(continues on next page)- Informant
