  1. People are married mostly in Shrove. Whit Monday is an unlucky day for marriage. Long ago it was a custom for a married pair to go for a drive on a side - car. An old horse - shoe was tied to the car for luck. Another custom was for the bride to get a feather - bed from her mother. Presents of china, linen and cuttlery were given to the bride. She also got a dowry. Strawboys dressed in funny clothes attended the wedding.
