  1. One fine evening in July 1917 three British Officers who were stationed in Athlone hired a centre board sailing boat and went up the Shannon. They were out on the lake and it was fairly stormy after some time the storm got worse. None of them knew how to sail a boat and they lost control. Two of them knew how to swim and they headed for the shore but they were drowned. The other man held onto the boat which drifted into land. One of them was found on the "Crow Island. One of the men was brought home to England and buried there. The other man was laid to rest in Cornamagh outside Athlone.
    There is an Island on Lough Ree called Inch More. This island got its name from a drowning accident which occurred about 60 years ago. Early in the morning a captain was preparing for a hunt. So he sent
