    While walking out for pleasure,
    Strange thoughts my senses fill,
    To view the scenery round Athlone,
    With a cross upon each hill.
    On Scotch Parade a Church does stand,
    Most beautiful to see,
    On Anker's Bower they raised a tower
    A splendid nunnery
    2.
    God bless those noble ladies,
    All blessings they deserve,
    To raise this sacred ediface
    To save poor souls from hell.
    The widow and the orphan,
    From all danger they defend,
    And the poor forlorn stranger,
    With them will have a friend.
    3.
    It is one of the greatest blessings,
    From Heaven down to shower,
    To see that splendid nunnery,
    That was built on Anker's Bower
    You may say that I was walking,
    But I was forced to stand,
    To view that splendid nunnery
