  1. There is a place midway between Moate and Tubber called the Trooper's Mound.
    THere was a battle fought there long ago between the Irish and the English. All were mounted on horse back and the bodies of the soldiers are buried there. Over each grave there was a small tree planted.
    If you were to visit that place at present you would see the graves of these great men. The trees now grown big and wide.
