Clover only grows where the land is good. Nettles, dock-leaves and thisles grow only in poor land. Some herbs have medicinal properties. Primrose-leaves, dandelion, and a herb called germander when boiled and the water in which they are boiled if it is drunk cures the yellow jaundice.
The dock-leaf or "dockin" as it is called locally cures the sting of a nettle. It is rubbed to the sting and the words "Dockin, dockin, take out the nettle, are said. Nettles are used for feeding young ducks and turkeys. Some poeple also, eat young nettles.
Watercress grows in streams. It is cooked and served like cabbage. Dock-leaves are used for feeding pigs. Prasha is also(continues on next page)- Collector
