    There is a record of two poets who lived in my district between three and four hundred years ago.

    There is a record of two poets who lived in my district between three and four hundred years ago. When Sir Desmond Fitzgerald was put in possession of the lands of Laragh and the surrounding townlands and the native Irish were dispossessed Sir Desmond banished the two poets from the district. One of the poets was Seamus Gavigan of Balroe and the other was Joe Murdock of Laragh. Murdock addressed the following to Sir Desmond after his departure from Laragh-
