- Long ago people did not begin to wear boots until they were twelve and fourteen years of age. There was an old woman living near Ballinagore and she always went in her bare feet. The children nowadays go barefooted in summer. It is said that when people wash their feet they should throw out the water afterwards as it is considered unlucky to keep it in the house over night. There are two shoemakers in this district at present.
Long ago the people wore clogs with wooden soles and they were made locally. In olden times the people made leather from the hide of cattle.- Collector
