  1. A Cavan Legend
    Once there lived a widow near a certain village in Cavan, who had an only son. He was very fond of rambling and card playing, and he used to carry the deck of cards with him. His mother was always arguing with him when he would not stay at home with her, but the only answer he would make her was Mother do not worry, I shall soon be bringing home a wife to keep you company.
    On his way to ramble he used to have to cross a field before getting out on the road. One night as he was coming home he met a man, who asked him had he a deck of cards, so that they would play a game. The fellow
