  1. The Black Funeral of Lake Sheelin
The Castle on Lake Sheelin now called Crover Castle was supposed to belong as far back as 1330 to Ui Ragallaig "King of Muintir Maolmorda and all Breffney. He and his family used to sail the Sheelin waters to attend mass in the Church of St Carthack (now in ruins) on Church Island.
History tells us a chapel existed on Church Island as early as the year 540. Old people in this district can rehearse the strange tradition of the "Black Funeral of Church Island.
