  1. Long ago, the people threshed the oats with a flail. Now it is threshed with a machine. It was brought in to the haggard in a cart, and put in a stack. In a week or so, the barn was half-filled with oats, and the other half was left for the straw.
    Two sheaves were loosened, and left lying on the floor. Then it was beaten with a flail to knock the oats out of it. It was turned a few times, and then lifted, and put on the half for
