  1. There are not many ancient monuments in my district. The only one I know of is beside Castlerickard churchyard. It is a pagan tumlus and a chieftain is supposed to be buried under it.
    Inside the churchyard there is a tomb erected to the Swift family. There is also an old headstone to the Murray family of Gilbertstown. They date back to the seventeenth century.
    By far the finest is the tomb of the Dillon family in Newtown churchyard near Trim. It is mentioned in Sir William Wilde's history
