- There is much superstition attached to birds.
Is is said that the Robin got his red breast at the death of Our Lord. He was supposed to take a thorn from Our Lord's head and thus he got his red breast.
It is also said that if a robin comes into a house it is the sign of bad weather.
In this country the corncrake, the cuckoo, and the swallows generally return about the end of April. It is said to be unlucky to see one magpie. If a blackbird is heard in the winter it is said to be the sign of hardship. It is noticed that the thrush builds in a bush, but the bush must be near a tree.- Collector
