- (continued from previous page)Curesointment was made from it for curing boils. There was a herb called "Mallow" which was boiled and ointment was made from it. Horse manure was put on a cut to stop bleeding. To put a gold wedding ring three times round a ringworm would cure it. The cure for a burn is the hair of a cat, the bark of an ash-tree the root of a daisy and hogs lard mixed. A cure for whooping cough is the juice of turnips. The turnip was sliced covered with sugar and left for a day or two. The syrup formed was drunk as a remedy for the whooping cough.
