    Dunleer for brandy
    Drogheda is the dirty hole,
    And Collon is the "dandy".
    A good many people emigrated from Collon to foreign lands. There are not many old people in Collon.
    Collon got it's name from the hazel woods near it. Collon is supposed to mean "The village of the hazels.

  2. In recent times a lot of inductires were carried on at Collon. Some of them are still carried on while the otheres are done away with completely.
    Five corn mills were in use on the Mattock river and none of them are in use now.
    A fair and a market was held here monthly and the fair held on 24th March was called the "Cold fair of Collon. None are held now.
