- There is a place in Hacklem called "Main-namuc" called the valley of the black pig. It was prophised that at the end or near the end of the world that there will be a black pig reared in some farm near Ardee and he will run through this place and away over to the West again.
- There was an old woman living in Rathesgar Cross long ago and it is said that she kept a donkey in a stable for seven years without taking him out once and his feet were rooted off him. Her name was Mag Newet.
