  1. The kinds of bread made locally in former years were, oatmeal bread, leavened bread, and potato cake. Oatmeal bread was made with, oatmeal, milk, salt, and breadsoda. The potato cake was made with, potatoes, flour, salt, soda, and milk. Leavened bread was made with, water, wheatmeal, flour, and salt. Leavened bread was made more frequently in former years that it is now. It is very wholesome for working men.
