  1. One night a man was out walking and as he went along he met a crowd of fairies, and they invited him to go for a ride with them.
    They took him into a lios which was nearby, and set him upon a calf's back.
    Then they told him not to speak a word, and that he might have some chance of getting back.
    The calf ran on, and on until he came to the Boyne River.
    He gave one enormous jump into the air, and landed on the far side.
    "Oh," said the man, "I have never seen a calf do so big a jump before."
    The calf immediately vanished and the man was left sitting there. He had to walk home = some 30 miles to Cooley.
