  1. Long ago the houses were made of clay, and timber. The chimneys were made of sticks, mud and hay. The mud was mixed in the hay, and the hay was made into sugars they put the sticks standing in the shape of a chimney on the roof and twisted the sugars between them.
The windows were very small and latticewire was in them instead of glass.
They used lock the door inside with a square block of timber. They had a hole in the wall the same size as the block of timber. They put the block of timber in the hole and had a ring on the end of it. This they pulled across at the back of the door at night. When they were going to Mass they locked it with a chain. They had the chain joined to the wall and put it around the latch. They put a lock on this and hid the key.
