  1. There was once a house in Birchgrove, with no chimney or window, so all the smoke used go out the door. This house belonged to Patrick O’Dwyer.
    John Ryan ( seán- buidhe ) of Birchgrove had no windows on his house, only the light that came in the door. Over the door there was a roost on which the people kept the fowl. This roost was to be seen in every house long ago.
    Martin Kennedy of Mienvee had a sod wall to his house, and one small window.
    John Leonard of Mienvee had windows on his house.
    Anthony Ryan of Birchgrove had two beds in the kitchen. They were placed along by the back wall.
    There were a number of wooden houses from the Post Office up to the Mines. The owners of them worked in the mines in Reafadda.
