  1. Weddings - the feast held at the home of the bridegroom after the marriage are now very rare, the reason given being that “ it would cost too much to make a wedding now “. Weddings were however invariably held in former times, and were important affairs. Food and drink were lavishly distributed at the supper at which potatoes together with a generous quantity of goose flesh and home cured bacon graced the plates of the invited guests.
