shot left their rifles. The millitary then marched away and no eviction took place. The hand of God prevailed and would not let the invaders succeed.
There was a Mass-rock in Corrigeen one time. It was situated opposite the old soup-school which is now occupied by a Mr. Hughes of Ballinahinch. It was not exactly a rock. It was not a rough dry stone building. It was roofed with long sticks and was covered with heath which was got in Creagough bog. After a while the heath grew long and it was clipped with a clippers. It looked a very picturesque roof. There was a legend attached to this old building. Several old people used to visit it on every November eve to pray for the souls in Purgatory. On one particular November a young priest was seen to enter. He put on his vestments and read his office. No one ever spoke to this priest and he never spoke to anyone. On one November eve a young named Mr. Dwyer stood up and said, "Father is there anything troubling you", and the priest said, "There is". "I want someone to answer Mass". "When I was alive I got paid to say a Mass and I forgot to say it." "You'r the first man who spoke to me". The priest then celebrated Mass and afterwards he said, "I can now enter Heaven". He gave his blessing to Mr. Dwyer who was a man of '67' fame.
